Hurricane Prep

As I am sure you all know, hurricane season is upon us. We do not know the path Irma will take at this time but it is best to always be prepared. We will continue to monitor the storm and send updates out as needed.

Hurricanes are strong storms that cause life and property threatening hazards such as flooding, storm surge, high winds and tornadoes. Preparation is the best protection against the dangers of a hurricane. Please review the following:

Topsail Reef Hurricane Season Policy
Before leaving your unit during hurricane season (June 1 – November 30) please be sure to bring in all deck furniture and screens. Place them inside on a protective covering to prevent rust damage to your carpet/rug. Removal of furniture is important, as these items become flying objects that can go through glass doors and/or windows. If you have a rental Management Company be sure they have a policy of furniture removal from the decks prior to hurricanes. If it becomes necessary for the Topsail Reef HOA to hire someone to remove your furniture the cost will be passed on to you.

For anyone remaining at The Reef during a storm: In case of any associated tropical winds exceeding an excess of 50 mph or greater, homeowners and/or tenants should come to the HOA Office and fill out the emergency contact form. If you choose to stay also be sure to review the American Red Cross checklist attached to this email or go to their website at: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/…/hur…/resources/Hurricane%20ENG.PDF

Re-Entry to Topsail Island after a storm: Re-Entry passes may be picked up at Town Hall, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5pm. Each long-term renter/homeowner with proof of residency (current utility bill with NTB address), current lease/deed, and picture ID will receive TWO re-entry passes. The Town encourages everyone to get their passes as early as possible, preferably before hurricane season begins (June 1st). Passes will not be issued 72 hours of predicted landfall. You can find further information on their website: http://www.ntbnc.org/Pages/HurricanePreparedness.aspx
